In Partyline, the riot grrrl ethic of joyously aggressive guitar pop is updated for the contemporary era; Allison Wolfe (formerly of Bratmobile) is joined by guitarist Angela Melkisethian and drummer Crystal Bradley on a mission to put male, corporate Christian America to rights, through the medium of the fuzzed-out two-minute pop song.
The band formed in 2004 when the three members discovered a mutual desire to protest against their country's inexorable lurch further and further right in the way that seemed most suitable - and to have some fun at the same time...
The content of Partyline's songs flits between zombie terrorists, crack-smoking aliens, pro-abortion groups and George Bush, taking its musical cues from bands like Dressy Bessy on the poppier numbers and Bikini Kill on the scarier ones; the band have a remarkable ability to unite diverse musical and lyrical elements into something very cohesive, to the extent that their marriage of surreal, sci-fi inspired comic-book imagery and leftist politics feels like a familiar genre by the end of the 20-minute breakneck ride that is their debut album, Zombie Terrorist. Who says politics and partying don't mix?
